After having a strong team available for the first round of the Aaron Printers T20 cup fixture on Thursday, the fixture fell foul of the awful weather and was postponed.
The reserve date of 3rd June away at Ipplepen is now the forecasted date for the fixture and we’re hoping to have an equally strong side available.
Having had rain almost incessantly all week, the 2nds game at Chelston & Kingskerswell fell foul of the weather early on Saturday morning, due to pools of standing water on the outfield. A strong and frustrated 2nd team had to settle for 6pts for the abandoned fixture.
The first team, playing at The Oak, fared a little better, after herculean efforts by Mitch and the grounds team in getting the game started. This despite a delayed start and plenty of rain interruptions.
The firsts batted to open the contest, and Ed Smout-Cooper and Sam Carpenter managed to take Abbots to 68-1 by the time Ed was dismissed on 46 LBW.
More rain delays meant that the Abbots innings was reduced to 33 overs from 55, and innings of 32 from Mark Gilmour and 24 from debutant Chathura Peiris got Abbots to a very reasonable 170-5 after 33 overs, Sam Carpenter unbeaten on 40*.
Abbots managed to bowl only 7.5 overs at Plympton before play was abandoned with the rain teeming down again, and their response at 48-2. Wickets for Chathura and Neal Osborn.
Abbots take 10 points for their efforts.
Next week (22nd May) sees the 1st XI make the long journey north to North Devon CC and the 2nds at The Oak to host Kingsbridge 1sts.
